Symposium Visionaire (knieprothese) 3 maart 2011.
There are no translations available.

Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT)

This technique is also used in our surgery now.

You can make an appointment for this technique after having been examined by one of our doctors. Treatment will take place at the following address: 60 Regentiestraat, in Sint-Niklaas. First you will be injected with a local anaesthetic. Then you will be treated with this technique. Treatment sessions usually take place on a Thursday morning.

A treatment session lasts about 20 to 30 minutes. Afterwards, you can lean on your ankle straightaway and you can drive home yourself.

Does Shock Wave Therapy work ?

Koen Peers has proved that ESWT is a new and efficient method for healing chronic overuse injuries to the Achilles and patellar tendons. ESWT stands for Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy, a therapy that uses sound shock waves to start up and strengthen the natural healing process in overused or calcifying tendons. In the first part of his thesis, the value of ESWT for these chronic tendon conditions is proved on the basis of clinical studies that were set up meticulously.
